Composition

The Eau de Parfum is inspired by the perfume with which it shares its floral aldehyde signature. This floral bouquet is composed around May Rose and Jasmine, and the top notes are enlivened by citrus accords. Aldehydes give it a unique presence, and the soft touch of Vanilla offers an infinitely sensual trail.

Inspiration

In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel commissioned perfumer Ernest Beaux to create “a woman’s perfume with the scent of a woman,” extraordinary and powerful. Beaux proposed a visionary composition that included an innovative use of aldehydes.

Mademoiselle Chanel chose version number 5 of the fragrance and decided to keep this simple number as its name. For this new perfume, she designed a radical bottle, decorated with a white label and topped with a carved stopper.

In 1986 , Jacques Polge , CHANEL's nose since 1978, reinterpreted the olfactory score of his predecessor, giving rise to a broader, more modern version of N°5 : the Eau de Parfum .
